See if you can find something in vintage edgings, handkerchiefs, also look at the edgings they put on doilies, dresser scarfs, bedspreads, etc. If I were a judge and was going to check your afghan, I would check out the edgings listed for afghans and if you were using one of them you would be crossed of my list.
