What are some factors that might account fo the differences betweent he american&canadian footprint?

The main difference I can think of is that canada has way fewer coal plants than the US has. Ontario is going to get rid of all of their coal plants by I belive, 2014. We also use a lot more hydro power than the usa does, but that is because we have so many more rivers and lakes up here.
